THE CHRONICLE OF UMAR SAMUEL ONOTU
Success is not a destination but a journey. In as much as we live, we strive to be the best we are created to be. Here is the life story of a man who has been a source of inspiration to many. He is a leader with vision, God fearing, loving and charming. He is a man who loves his profession so much. This is the Chronicle of' Umar Samuel Onotu.
Umar Samuel Onotu was born on the 22nd of April, 19-- into the family of Hon and Mrs. Stephen Umar (Jp). His father, Hon Stephen is an indigene of Usungwe but resides in Obangede of Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State. Umar Samuel is a Christian by religion. At age three (3), he was enrolled into Ruth Elton Nursery and Primary school Obangede, Kogi State where he obtained his primary school leaving certificate in the year 2002. He further proceeded to St Augustine's college Kabba from the year 2002 to 2008 where he obtains his senior secondary school certificate. While at the college, he served as the Press club president, the school assistant social prefect, the president of the Student Representative Council and the vice president of the Fellowship of Christian Student (FCS). Umar Samuel Onotu has won several awards during his secondary school days. Some of these are: his meritorious award as the assistant Social prefect of the school, debating award by the Success Frontiers during the Ibro inter - schools and colleges competition held on the 28th of February to 6th of March, 2008. He also earns a meritorious award as one time President of the Student Representative Council (SRC) of his college.
After the successful completion of his Senior School Certificate Examination, he proceeded to have his degree (BSc) in Mass Communication at the Kogi State University Ayinba in the year 2010-2014. During his stay on campus, he was so committed to the Anglican Student Fellowship. He became vice president in his second year in the fellowship, and eventually the president in his third year.
Though the journey was not all smooth while he was on Campus but God saw him through. After the completion of his degree program, he had to respond to the clarion's call to render service to his nation as a patriotic citizen under the canopy of National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in the year 2014-2015. He was posted to Ikire Local Government Area of Osun State. During his NYSC program, he attended a certificate course on Human Resource Management at the University of Ile-Ife where he acquired a certificate as a human resource manager.
As stated earlier, ''Success is not a destination but a journey''. Many think that after University and the NYSC program, life becomes a bed of roses. This is most time not true for those born into a humble home. Umar Samuel Onotu decided to face the challenges of life after school and his NYSC experience. He stayed back in Osun State where he served to see if he could get a job. After much search, he was able to secure a job as a secondary school teacher in Omowumi Group of School, Ikoyi-Ile, Osun State. He taught English and was placed under a meager salary. He could not make anything much out of it as a result of family responsibility, being the first son. The salary was from hand to mouth. He ends up borrowing every month to survive only to pay back once his salary comes. Due to his zeal for the work of God, he was given a church to head under the Anglican Communion before he left Osun State in 2016.
As life was not easy for him in a strange land, he resolved to come home (Ebira land) to settle and see what he can do for a living. He came down home where he applied for a job at the Ovidi Communication, the owners of Tao Fm. He was placed on trial for a whole year without receiving a dime. He endured the suffering until he was later employed in November, 2017. He rises from the position of an assistant presenter to the position of the Head of presentation while in the station before he left for a better offer. He worked with the station for approximately two years before God paved way for him into Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation. He is a lover of his profession. He is popularly known by the public as the radio pilot. Some of his early programs that distinguish him are, Couples arena, where family issues are being acted out, Avabe, an ebira program where community issues are discussed and Saturday breakfast show, all on Tao fm.
Currently, Umar Samuel Onotu works with Kogi State Broadcasting Cooperation (Radio Kogi Otite-Okene Eba) where he functions as the head of Presentation. He is an On Air Personality who has so much passion for his job. His competence and creativity in presentations makes him outstanding and to have a large number of followers who are his fan. He is popularly known as SammyU, the radio pilot. He is the anchor of Lovers garden'' and the chief speaker of 'as e de hot assembly' on radio Kogi 93.5 fm.
Umar Samuel Onotu decided to take the bold step and got wedded on 26th of October, 2019. He is happily married to Miss Ogah Melody Isoyiza now Mrs. Melody Isoyiza Samuel. He has passed through series of life challenges before he got to where he is today. He has once tried the Police recruitment, Road Safety recruitment, Immigration Service and Fire Service but none ever worked out. He is a man who does not despise the days of humble beginning and does not settle for less. He sees every opportunity as a step needed to take in the journey of success. As he lives on, he still continues to vision a better tomorrow.
Umar Samuel Onotu is a role model, a public figure, a patriotic citizen and a gem in the world of journalism. His favorite quote is ''My greatest fear is not death but inability to make heaven'
